Iron Lace Borders Q’n’A 19, 20 from Virtual Quilter

Only one border, and the whole quilt has only a few applique blocks, and the other blocks are quilted. I think i would applique the whole of the outer row of blocks leaving just four blocks to be just quilted.

Only parts of one border are applique, the rest of the two borders are quilted only. With all the designs in this project file the quilt only areas could be appliqued, but I like to see some areas of any quilt with quilting designs which are based on both pieced and applique designs filling some of the blank spaces.

Lots of room for background fillers, though the quilted border shown would be in a thread to match the applique colour.

Minimal applique, but with the added quilting I think it would have maximum effect.

Iron Lace Borders Q'n'A from Virtual Quilter

Interesting.

I like to leave space around applique blocks. This design has just eight applique blocks which leaves room for quilting to be showcased. I would perhaps use a more subdued thread colour in a real quilt, and the blank spaces in each block I would fill with a filler such as cross hatching.

My favourite is the last one.
